Pilates FAQ
How do I pronounce it? Puh-Lah- teez
Who benefits from Pilates?
Anyone from the injured to professional athletes, any age, and any level of fitness will benefit from Pilates.
Can I cross train with Pilates?
Yes. It will help create a better understanding of posture and how it relates to all forms of exercise. It will help correct muscle imbalances that can develop through repetitive forms of exercises; weight training, golf, and all other sports.
Why do I need an instructor? Can I buy a book or DVD?
These exercises need to be performed precisely and correctly; to be safe and effective. A book or DVD cannot observe your body and give you feedback.
What can I expect from my first session?
You will have an evaluation of your health history, a nutritional assessment, a goal evaluation, and a postural analysis. We will make sure we are on the same page so your goals are met. You will start to learn about your body.
If I’m pregnant, can I do Pilates?
It’s a great maintenance program during your pregnancy ONLY if you have been practicing Pilates prior to your pregnancy. Why??? You do not want to strengthen muscles you have not used before; especially your abdominals and back muscles. You would be creating extra stress.
Is Pilates for MEN?
Yes. Men including professional athletes have used Pilates in order to help their game. You will notice more power and fluidity in your motion. You will use the power of your whole body; instead of “cheating” just using your arms and legs.
Are you willing to spend more money for a qualified teacher?
I would; considering there are 500 exercises, core concepts, and program designs. Why pay if you do not use it everyday for the rest of your life.
How often should I work out?
It depends on your goals; as a general rule, a minimum twice a week.
What if I have low back pain? Can I do Pilates?
Yes. It will help strengthen the abs and back. I will consult with your health care provider if necessary.
